Banjo Loop 8

Trying to reacquaint myself with this instrument. I used to be pretty good at it. Getting more time back soon to practice so will be getting back up to speed. It's also a bit harder to record than the guitar so I'm sort of experimenting around a bit. This does actually sound nice when you jam over it so I thought I'd stick it up!

I'll write a bit more on this soon in a proper blog piece but I've been playing around with a new piece of effects equipment for the electric. At the same time I was getting some first playtime with effects unit a friend sent over a track he was working on. So, I jammed over it a bit and chopped out a couple of loops that sound ok.

I think the sounds from the unit are great, and have a nice enough quality on these funny little loops to share but I think in general overdoing it on the acceleration pedal at the ends. But lots of potential. Less is more. So here's the loops I chopped from the improv (it's two joined together from a couple of better bits).

And this is the edit of them (or other bits of the improv) my friend chopped and sequenced into his track. There was also another more fuzzy line I played on a separate track in here too, but I've not taken loops from that. Really like the vibe my friend has created with the bulk of track here of which I play a tiny part and take no credit!

Acoustic Guitar Loop 21

This is a bit of a weird one. It's not in a 4/4 timing but it is to the stated BPM. I guess(ed) the timing might be 6/8 but I don't know enough about time signatures to say - but that is what I intuited and, just checking a video now on YouTube which makes me think, 'yes it is...'.

Anyways, I think the muffled thing at the beginning is my foot tapping on this short loop in EAC#F#BD#.  I thought it had enough of a quality to it and I might pop up another piece to show it sounds nice to play over the top of. Again the capo is on the 5th fret. I think this is the last thing I'll do in this tuning for a while. I do have some ideas to work up from previous recent recordings using some of the other loops available in this tuning.

I've also just been catching up on the story of Jackson C. Frank which is really just a tragic tale for too many reasons. If you haven't heard his music yet I highly recommend it and spread the word. I've been learning to play 'Just Like Anything' over the last couple of days which I think is just beautiful. Also - this appears to be the only extant footage of him playing. I'm sure there is more hidden away who knows where.

It does sound like it. Yes, it's the first time I picked the banjo up in a while.
